Looking for ALL JHS Grads!   We would love to hear from you.  Send us a picture, a postcard, a logo… from where you live now, what school you went on to, what you do for a living.  Include your name and contact information.  It will be posted on our wall “Oh the places you’ll go…” to encourage our JHS students.  Please like and share this post.  Everyone who does by June 9th, will have their name entered in a draw for a $30 Subway Card.  We want to get the message to travel as far and as wide as possible! Applications for CSLC – Students Wanted!

APPLICATIONS FOR THE CANADIAN STUDENT LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE (CSLC) SEPTEMBER 23 – OCTOBER 1, WATERLOO (TORONTO), ONTARIO

 

Students interested in attending the CSLC conference must meet the following criteria:

  • You must currently be in secondary 3 or 4
  • You must be in good academic and behavioural standing
  • You must commit to being involved in student life activities (i.e. Peer Advising, Student Council, Talent Show, Grad Committee, etc.)
  • You must be a positive role model
  • You must be organized, responsible and reliable
  • You must be able to balance school work and extra curricular work (i.e. be responsible for getting caught up on missed school work; not letting your extra curricular work compromise your studies; being able to mange your time well enough to be able to handle both)

 

Priority will be given to students who are currently involved in student life activities

The cost of the trip is between $625 – $650.  The majority of this amount must be paid before the end of this school year.

There are 3 secured spots and a possible waiting list for 2 additional students.

In order to apply students must write a letter in which you convince me that you should be chosen to attend the conference.  Be sure to mention student life activities in which you have taken part and/or activities you would like to help organize next year.  Don’t forget to explain how you meet the criteria listed above.

Please submit your letter to Ms. Maluorni in person or at smaluorni@swlauriersb.qc.ca no later than Tuesday, April 18th.  Applications will not be accepted after this date.

 

WANTED: 10 PEER ADVISORS

 

Students interested in becoming a Peer Advisor must meet the following criteria:

 

  • You must currently be in secondary 2, 3 or 4
  • You must be in good academic and behavioural standing
  • You must be a positive role model
  • You must attend school regularly (must not have an excessive amount of absences)
  • You must be organized, responsible and reliable
  • Must be able to work well as part of a team.
  • Must have good communication and listenening skills
  • Be dynamic, passionate and energetic.
  • You must be willing to attend a one and a half hour meeting after school at least once per month
  • You must be willing at attend fall camp (2 nights)
  • You must be able to balance school work and peer advising (i.e. be responsible for getting caught up on missed school work; not letting your extra curricular work compromise your studies; being able to mange your time well enough to be able to handle both). Peer advisors miss approximately one period of school per month as well as 3 days for camp and 2 and a half days for activities with grade six students.

February Updates

AFTER SCHOOL TUTORING

There will be after school tutoring on Tuesdays and Thursdays on the 2nd, 7th, 9th, 14th and 16th.  As usual, students are asked to reserve their taxis in advance at a cost of $2.

CONTEST: CANADA DAY CHALLENGE 2017
students can help celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary through an art, photography, writing and film making competition.  Participants could win one of three all-expense paid trips to Ottawa for two to take part in the 150th celebrations.  It’s a great opportunity for JHS students to showcase their talent and win a great prize.

MOVIE/PIZZA NIGHT
Reminder that payments for movie/pizza night must be submitted by no later than Tuesday, February 7th.

ACTIVITY DAY
Permission forms and payment for Activity Day (February 22) must be received no later than Thursday, February 9th.
