The Horatio Alger Association of Canada is inviting students to apply for its 2016 Canadian Scholarship Program. The Association’s scholarships, which are funded by the Members of the Horatio Alger Association of Canada, were established in 2012 and are available to students throughout all of Canada for the first time this year. In keeping with the educational mission of the Association, the scholarship program provides assistance to students in Canada who have financial need and have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity. To be eligible, applicants must be a Canadian citizen who is graduating from high school in the Spring/Summer of 2016, and must also be committed to pursuing and completing a post-secondary degree. The Association is offering two levels of awards. Only one application is needed to be considered for both scholarships. The National Entrepreneurial Scholarship will be awarded to five students in the amount of $10,000. National Entrepreneurial Scholars will also attend an all-expenses paid conference in April held in Washington, DC. An additional 80 students will be awarded $5,000. Students must submit an online application at www.horatioalger.ca/en/scholarships. Application deadline is 5 p.m. on Oct. 26. The graduating students of this year are launching their first fundraiser. All students form the school were given a hard copy of the catalogs today. Pleas follow this link for more information.
Joliette High School and The Musée d’art de Joliette is proud to announce that their will be several workshop given by a cartoonist at lunch in the next couple of weeks. All material will be given to the students, there will be one outing in Montreal, students will have the chance to meet with professional cartoonists and there is even a chance to win a prize. Students participating will also create a book that they will be able to keep. If you are interested, please see Mrs. Murphy as soon as possible.
This month, the Grad Committee for the Class of 2016 will be having a Pink Bake Sale on Wednesday, October 7th in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month. We will also be having a Pink Day on Thursday, October 15th where staff and students who wear pink can pay $2 to enter their name into a draw for prizes. Pink ribbons will also be available from Mrs. Lowry in 203 for a donation.
Half of all the profits raised from these fundraisers will be sent to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, and the other half will go to the Grad Committee. We look forward to your participation!
